This week is Rail Safety Week, and to highlight the dangers of the railway, Govia Thameslink Railway has released CCTV footage of common accidents.
The operator is prompting passengers to remain safe around railways, allowing extra time, not running for trains and using lifts when travelling with luggage, especially around the upcoming busy summer season.
Passenger numbers are on the rise, and around 2 people are injured every day.
GTR have released their top stations for accidents, including Bedford, Gatwick Airport, Brighton, East Croydon, Victoria, and Clapham Junction.
Gatwick Airport made it very high on the list, and with an expected 13 million visitors through the summer season, the likelihood of accidents is even higher.
Passengers are also reminded about the rail safety video launched earlier this year.
“One accident really is one too many, so we are always looking at ways to encourage people to follow important health and safety guidelines. With lots of new and different customers using our network this summer, we hope the CCTV footage reinforces the simple safety messages that are at the heart of our campaign. As stations become busier, we want everyone to enjoy a safe and stress-free journey, so please don’t run for trains, attempt to jump through a closing door, or take baggage and pushchairs on escalators.”

On the Gatwick platforms 5/6 on the video, the actual story (from personal experience) is that the lift was out of service with taped across the entrance doors. So how were passengers to get their suitacses easily up or down to the platforms ?
