The Great Central Railway in Leicestershire has reluctantly decided to suspend train services tomorrow, Thursday, 25th June, because of the expected very high temperatures.

The decision to close the Great Central Railway on Thursday was prompted by a Red Extreme Heat warning issued by the Meteorological Office, and was taken in the best interests of the railway’s staff and volunteers.

The Great Central Railway apologises for any disappointment this may cause, and thanks the public for their understanding. It is also looking forward to visitors coming back at the weekend, when temperatures are expected to be somewhat cooler.

The mainline networks have been similarly affected, with Great Western Railway and Chiltern Railways both introducing amended timetables.
