As part of Rail Safety Week, pupils from a local school were welcomed to Direct Rail Services’ (DRS) Kingmoor Depot.
They visited the site, had a tour, and learned about the operation of the railway.
DRS also partnered with livery specialists Ast to create gifts for the pupils from Austin Friars School, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
Model locomotives were created in the school’s colours, with varying Class 68s and Class 88s.
A select few students were also given a behind-the-scenes tour, looking at the engineering facility and control room and looking inside a locomotive cab
“I would like to thank DRS for welcoming us so warmly to enjoy a tour of the depot. The pupils learnt so much about the history and contemporary nature of the industry and all that goes into running such an operation. It was a genuinely educational visit for them all. Thank you so much.”
Chris Hattam, Headmaster of Austin Friars
