Passengers on some South Western Railway trains can now scan QR codes at their seats to obtain live information about their journeys through a One Scan app.
Passengers are using the app. every forty seconds, rising during peak travel times to over 20,000 times every seven seconds.
The One Scan platform has recently been updated, with enhanced accessibility features and personalised information about onward travel connections.
One Scan is currently available on Class 158/9 and Class 444 trains, and the QR codes are different on every train and in every carriage.
The latest update to One Scan features a redesigned interface providing access to live train service information, station information, onward travel connections and personalised journey details.
Passengers can use the app to share their journey progress with others, and as well as obtaining journey information, customers can use One Scan to submit feedback directly to South Western Railway’s maintenance and train presentation teams, so that their comments can be actioned quickly.
The app is especially useful for deaf customers, as One Scan uses photorealistic British Sign Language (BSL) translations to provide information on their devices. Other train operators that display information in BSL include Northern and Chiltern Railways.

One Scan received First Of A Kind funding from Innovate UK, and received an award for ‘Accessibility & Integrated Transport Excellence’ at the 2026 Rail Business Awards.
“We know how important providing accurate, timely and accessible information is for delivering a smooth journey. Our refreshed One Scan platform gives a more connected travel experience that helps customers stay informed throughout their journey. The easy-to-use QR codes on board trains between London and Weymouth, Portsmouth and Exeter take customers straight to live updates on their journey, with an option to see them in British Sign Language, as well as details of special offers and SWR Rewards. Next time you see a QR code on the seat in front of you, scan it and see what One Scan has to offer you.”
