Earlier this year, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway launched the Bridge 42 appeal to help repair the Grade II structure.
The railway planned to prop up the bridge as a temporary repair to allow it to reopen, with significant progress made in the first few months.
They have now received a £ 50,000 contribution from the North York Moors National Park, from their S106 Landscape and Ecology fund.
The money will go directly into the bridge’s stabilisation work.
Work on the bridge will continue, and the railway will remain open from Pickering to Whitby from 1st June.

I’m glad they’ve done this since the NYMR is the closest heritage railway to me
From what I have heard it is a shame they have given the CEO a large pay rise, when that could have gone towards the bridge or other repairs. This railway seems to live on begging for hand outs from the public when they should be looking at reducing the management staffing costs and putting that back into the railway. Just my opinion 🙂
