This year, the Llangollen and Corwen Railway is again running its popular “Tren a Thref: The Corwen Heritage Adventure” events, in partnership with Dee Valley Tours.
Tren a Thref, Welsh for Train and Town, is a unique visitor experience that celebrates the heritage, scenery, and stories of the Dee Valley. The next event is during May’s half-term holidays on Friday, 29th May, and will combine a journey along the scenic heritage line from Llangollen to Corwen, with a guided walking tour of Corwen.

On arrival at Corwen, local guide Louise Scotcher will take visitors on a walking tour of the town to discover its rich history, landscapes, and local legends.
Previous events received have received glowing praise for both the experience and the expert guide. One happy visitor commented that it was a lovely day out and expressed many thanks to Louise, who was a brilliant and very friendly tour guide.
“Louise has encyclopaedic knowledge of the area and its history. I learned more about Owain Glyndŵr today than I ever did in school! The highlight for me was the walk up to Pen-y-Pigyn overlooking Corwen. Thoroughly recommended.”

There are also options to join a walk up Pen y Pigyn, from where there are panoramic views of Corwen Station and the Dee Valley, or to catch a later return train from Corwen at 16:20 to arrive back at Llangollen at approximately 17:05.
Tickets cost £30 for adults over 16, £6 for children aged 3 to 15, and children under 3 travel free.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing Tren a Thref back following such a positive response from visitors. It’s a fantastic way to showcase not only the heritage railway itself, but also the wider Dee Valley and the historic town of Corwen. Working in partnership with Dee Valley Tours allows us to offer something truly special that combines travel, history and outstanding scenery in one experience.”

Other events on the Llangollen Railway include the popular Real Ale Train, a visit behind-the-scenes to study how traditional railway upholstery is repaired.
“Tren a Thref is all about bringing the stories of Corwen to life in a way that’s engaging, accessible and memorable. Combining the railway journey with a guided walk allows visitors to experience the landscape as people would have in the past, while discovering the rich history, characters and legends that make this area so special. We’ve been delighted with the response so far and are really looking forward to welcoming more visitors on 29 May.”
