Transport for Wales has announced its special one-day charity rail tour raised £1,337 for Railway Children and the operator’s charity of the year, Alzheimer’s Society.

The excursion ran on Saturday, 25 April and carried 115 passengers on board a Class 67-hauled Mark 4 set headed by locomotive 67029.

Departing from Holyhead, the train travelled along the North Wales Coast line and through the Welsh Marches to Swansea, before returning north later the same day.

Passengers were given the rare chance to travel over sections of infrastructure not normally used by passenger services, including freight loops and the Leckwith Loop between Ninian Park and the South Wales Main Line.

The “Gerald of Wales / Y Gerallt Gymro” name remains closely associated with links between North and South Wales.

“We are so grateful that Transport for Wales has chosen Alzheimer’s Society as its charity of the year.

“Thank you to everyone involved in making the Mark 4 rail tour such a memorable and successful event. “We simply couldn’t reach everyone who needs us without the continued support of our incredible fundraisers like Transport for Wales.”

Lauren Bromham, Alzheimer’s Society Regional Fundraiser.
