Retro Wheels and Rails returns to The Watercress Line in Hampshire on 13 and 14 June, bringing a weekend of heritage railway travel, live entertainment, and decade-themed nostalgia across the line’s four stations.

Visitors will be able to travel throughout the day behind steam and diesel locomotives, with unlimited hop-on, hop-off rides along the heritage route.

Each station will represent a different era, transforming the railway into an immersive journey through the 1940s to the 1970s.

At Alresford, the 1960s theme will feature music in the Goods Shed and retro-inspired food in the station café.

Ropley will recreate wartime Britain with vintage vehicles, live music and a 1940s atmosphere. Medstead & Four Marks will host a 1950s Rock ’n’ Roll experience, while Alton will celebrate the 1970s with retro gaming, a traditional sweet shop and period décor.

The event will also include miniature railway rides, vintage station telephones allowing visitors to call between stations, access to the Loco Shed Viewing Gallery, themed selfie spots, and a locomotive playground for younger visitors.

Food, drinks, ice cream and gift shops will be available at Alresford and Ropley stations throughout the weekend. Visitors are also encouraged to dress in period clothing inspired by their favourite decade.

“Time travel with us at The Watercress Line’s Retro Wheels and Rails event – it promises to be an unforgettable celebration of vintage transport.

“There will be so much to enjoy, whether you’re coming for the classic cars, the music, the trains or the nostalgic fun. We are looking forward to welcoming families, train enthusiasts and visitors of all ages to celebrate the decades that shaped the 20th century.”

Rebecca Dalley, CEO of The Watercress Line.
