A Star Wars content creator marked Star Wars Day on 4 May by travelling on the Tyne and Wear Metro dressed as the Mandalorian. Chris Saunders said the idea originated when his children noted that the red and green door indicator lights resembled lightsabers from the sci-fi franchise.
Saunders donned a bespoke Mandalorian suit of armour, produced using a 3D printer and hand-painted, for the journey, surprising fellow passengers. The trip was filmed for his TikTok account, screenandbeyond, which has nearly 300,000 followers, and was also shared on the Metro’s official social media channels.

Star Wars Day is celebrated annually on 4 May, based on the phrase “May the Fourth be with you”. Saunders chose the costume ahead of the UK cinema release of The Mandalorian and Grogu on 22 May. Metro operator Nexus welcomed the event.
“It was amazing to welcome Chris on board for Star Wars Day. The sight of the Mandalorian travelling around the system certainly didn’t go unnoticed – it’s safe to say that it’s not something we see every day.
“It brought a real sense of fun for our customers and our own teams. The new trains feature cutting‑edge technology, and it’s easy to see why Star Wars fans have drawn comparisons between the door lighting and lightsabers. The lights are there to clearly indicate when doors are opening or closing, flashing from green to red.”
