A new mural celebrating the history of Sudbury and Harrow Road railway station has been unveiled in the station underpass, following funding from a community grant provided by Chiltern Railways.

Designed by mural artist LeSpleen alongside the Friends of Barham Library, the piece references the route’s rural past, portraying steam-era rail travel before development reached the area.

The mural was officially unveiled during an event held on Tuesday, 19 May.

The project was delivered by Friends of Barham Library, the group behind Barham Community Library, which is around five minutes from the station on foot.

Spanning the full length of the underpass, the artwork includes historical information about the station and the surrounding area.

“We were pleased to work with Chiltern Railways to brighten up Sudbury & Harrow Road Station with a beautiful mural.

“LeSpleen, our talented artist, created an exciting piece of street art that takes us back to a Sudbury of the early 1900s when the railway came to the local countryside full of farms and open spaces. 

“We are delighted to be part of a project which created large pieces of new art which is accessible and free for everyone to see.”
