A freight train derailed at low speed in Oxley last night, causing major disruption to passengers travelling through Wolverhampton today.

The derailment caused no injuries and remained upright; however, it damaged both the track and the overhead power lines.

Removing the derailed wagon is quite complex, and the repairs mean that disruption will continue for the rest of the day and likely into tomorrow (7th May).

Passengers are advised to check before they travel, as there are no trains running between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.

West Midlands Railway is running a shuttle service between Shrewsbury and Telford.

Transport for Wales is unable to run its service to and from Birmingham Airport past Shrewsbury, with buses in place between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.

Passengers can check with the relevant operator or check journeys online via National Rail.
