The West Somerset Railway has launched a fundraising appeal to help secure its future.

The railway is celebrating 50 years of preservation this year, after being saved from closure in 1976.

They are calling for supporters, visitors, and the general public to help them reach their £250,000 target.

The money will go towards the 10-year overhauls of both 7828 “Odney Manor” and “Mogul” 9351, with the option to hire locomotives while the work is underway.

The British Railways Mark 1 carriages would also receive a programme of maintenance and refurbishment.

Funding would also go towards infrastructure, maintaining the line, bridges and culverts. Fencing work would also be carried out to keep livestock off the tracks, and vegetation would be managed.

Special anniversary events are running throughout the year alongside the fundraising campaign, including their Summer Diesel Festival.
