Services between Doncaster and Cleethorpes will be disrupted this weekend (16th and 17th May) due to improvement works at Keadby sliding railway bridge.

The bridge forms part of the UK’s busiest freight route and will undergo a range of upgrades to keep it reliable.

Network Rail will upgrade mechanical equipment and install a new track system to improve track alignment.

TransPennine Express services will operate replacement buses, as they will only run between Liverpool Lime Street and Doncaster on both days.

Saturday will see Northern services operate only between Doncaster and Hatfield & Stainforth, with replacement buses in place.

Alongside the bridge work, track renewal is also taking place south of Elsham, causing disruption throughout next week.

Full details about services and replacement buses can be found online.

“Keadby sliding bridge is a vital link for both passenger and freight services, and this work will help ensure it continues to operate reliably for years to come. By improving the alignment of the track, we can deliver smoother journeys and reduce the need for future maintenance. We’d like to thank passengers for their patience while this essential work takes place and encourage them to check before they travel.”

Karen Duffy, Network Rail operations director
