Passengers at Peckham Rye station are set to see a major transformation, with improvements from Network Rail and Southern Railway aimed at easing congestion, enhancing passenger flow, and accommodating future growth. 

A previously hidden corner of the station’s booking hall will be unveiled for the first time in 30 years, providing additional space in one of south London’s busiest interchanges.

The main ticket vending machine will be relocated to this corner, formerly occupied by cash machines, freeing up room in the booking hall and paving the way for further upgrades over the next 12 months, including new entrance doors and additional ticket gates.

In June, work will begin on foundations for a replica of the station canopy removed in 1961, scheduled to complement Southwark Council’s public square project outside the station.

This summer, passengers will also benefit from new information screens along platforms 1 and 2, encouraging use of the full platform length to reduce onboard crowding.

Next year, Network Rail plans to address narrow sections on platforms 3 and 4 and refurbish the platform canopies, creating a more spacious and welcoming environment for waiting passengers.

Once the ATM is removed, the vacated wall space will house new information boards, keeping passengers updated while improving the station’s appearance.

All works are expected to be completed by summer 2027.
