Great Western Railway services will be disrupted during weekends in June while Network Rail carries out track renewal and drainage improvements in the Newbury area.

The work includes replacing the track between Theale and Bedwyn and flood prevention upgrades along the route. Buses will replace trains between Reading and Newbury or Bedwyn on 6 to 7 and 13 to 14 June, with additional replacement transport operating between Newbury, Kintbury and Hungerford, and between Pewsey and Swindon.

Great Western Railway services between London Paddington and Plymouth, Newquay or Penzance will be diverted via Swindon. Services between Reading and Basingstoke will run as normal. 

Passengers are asked to check before travel and to leave plenty of time for their journeys.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause but the work planned will help us to maintain our train services in the area for years to come. Rail replacement services are planned for those stations affected, including a minibus at Newbury to serve Kintbury and Hungerford stations. It’s important that customers are aware these alternative travel arrangements could make journey times much longer, so please plan ahead.”
