Over the two May Bank Holidays, major improvements have been underway on the East Coast Main Line.

Numerous projects have been delivered, with drainage, track, and earthworks improved and upgraded.

A notable project from May has seen all seven bridge beams installed at Landing Lane, York.

The project is part of the wider York Central regeneration project and has been delivered by McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate on behalf of Homes England and Network Rail.

The regeneration project will see brownfield land transformed, and the new bridge will provide a new access road into the site.

In other places, landslip mitigation work has been underway in the Tollerton area, with renewal work on nearby points also undertaken.

At Chapman’s Bridge, near Shipton, and at Sunderland station, drainage was renewed to help prevent flooding and keep the line reliable.

“We’d like to thank passengers for their patience while this work was carried out and for bearing with us during the changes to services.

“The improvements we’ve delivered are an important investment in the long-term resilience of the East Coast Main Line. Renewing life-expired equipment, improving drainage systems and strengthening embankments will help reduce delays and protect the railway for years to come.”

Gunnar Lindahl, joint operations director for Network Rail and LNER
