Crewe Heritage Centre has released its programme of activities for next week’s half-term school break.

The Centre, located in Cheshire, is inviting families from across the county – and further afield – to take part in hands-on activities, creative workshops and family-friendly experiences.

The half-term programme runs from Saturday 23 May to Sunday 31 May 2026, but the Centre will be closed on Sunday 24 May for the Crewe Krazy Races event.

Plant and Grow Workshops

These workshops will take place on Saturday 23 and Monday 25 May. Participants will have the opportunity to plant their own sunflower, either to take home or to brighten the Heritage Centre.

They will also be able to contribute to the Centre’s community garden.

Crewe Krazy Races

On Sunday 24 May, visitors can support the Heritage Centre’s team in the town’s Crewe Krazy Races, which take place in the town centre.

Free Family Day with Nature Activities for All

On Wednesday 27 May, the Centre will host a day of activities which will be free of charge for visitors.

Visitors can drop in to a range of nature-based activities, including exploring the natural world with Creative Crewe, and a Dig for Victory workshop about how people grew food during World War II.

The Centre is developing its efforts to support and promote biodiversity.

Visitors will have full access to the Heritage Centre’s exhibitions, trains and displays.

This includes riding on the miniature railway, and looking at iconic locomotives, including the 8000th engine built at Crewe Works.

Half Term Finale: Family Nature Activities

On Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May, the half-term programme reaches its climax with a weekend of activities.

Visitors will be able to visit the Heritage Centre’s recently-installed gardens, using a wooden magnifying glass that they have designed themselves. In the outdoor space, visitors can see birds, bugs, herbs and flowers.

Creative sessions will be held indoors. An elevated viewing platform will allow visitors to view the West Coast Main Line.

The Centre, which welcomed record numbers of visitors at the start of this year, has a café, shop and family activity areas.
