Dovetail Games has announced the release of a diesel-electric locomotive for use on Train Simulator Classic Longhai Railway: Lingbao – Mianchi route.

The locomotive is an ND5-II six-axle diesel-electric locomotive, powered by a 16-cylinder diesel engine, and is based on General Electric’s GE C36-7 locomotive platform, with over 400 in use on China’s railway network. The Longhai Railway is in Henan province, and between Lingbao and Mianchi is a scenic 105 km electrified section that includes a horseshoe curve through the district of Hubin, and travels through the beautiful Loess Plateau with forests and farmland.

Although high-speed lines in China have CTCS signalling, slower routes such as the Longhai Railway use LKJ signalling, which provides a challenge in balancing in-cab and track-side information.

The ND5-II for Train Simulator Classic was developed by the Monologue Group and has many realistic operational features, including an LJK train status and fault diagnosis system, RISC/CTCS signal recognition, and custom numbering and depot allocation markings. It also comes with scenarios specific to the Longhai Railway: Lingbao – Mianchi route that allow it to be put through its paces.

A suite of scenarios specific to the Longhai Railway: Lingbao – Mianchi route is included, which allows the ND5-II to be put through its paces. These include:

• Learning how to drive the ND5-II.
• A freight train from Zhangjiawan to Guanyintang.
• Rescuing another train during the Spring Festival travel rush.
• Driving the ND5-II from Lingbao and from Mianchi.

Other scenarios are also available free from the Steam Workshop online and in-game. Players should note that to play these scenarios, Longhai Railway: Lingbao – Mianchi Route Add-On and China Railways HXD1 are required, which must be purchased separately.

The ND5-II loco costs £11.99, and the Longhai Railway: Lingbao – Mianchi Route Add-On and China Railways HXD1 are both currently available at a discount at £12.49 and £6.79 respectively.

As well as this add-on for Train Simulator Classic, new add-ons recently released for Train Simulator 6 include a Class 802 in Great British Railways livery and a German DB BR 147 locomotive, which is mainly used on DB Regio passenger services.
