The Wensleydale Railway in North Yorkshire has a special half-term treat planned for next Wednesday, 27th May, with a Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

Children and adults are invited to bring their favourite teddy bear to Leeming Bar Station for a day of adventure, starting by collecting a teddy bear trail booklet before catching a train to Scruton, where the day’s activities take place.

These include face painting, the chance to play with Victorian toys and games, story time, badge-making, and listening to music on a harmonium. Snacks and refreshments will be on sale at Scruton Station and the buffet car at Leeming Bar Station, although visitors are being encouraged to bring a picnic for the proverbial ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

Trains will run throughout the day, with six trains between Leeming Bar and Scruton, the first train departing from Leeming Bar at 11.25. There will also be four trains between Leeming Bar and Leyburn, with the first train from Leeming Bar departing at 09.20.

The activities at Scruton will run from 11:00 until 3:00@Tickets for the day are £6 for children, including a Teddy Bears Trail booklet, and £5 for adults, and tickets allow return train travel from Leeming Bar to Scruton.

Despite rising costs, the price of train tickets is still the same as in 2024. At the end of July, the railway is offering budding engine drivers the chance to drive a full-size train through the stunning Yorkshire Dales countryside.
