A violent incident at Tenby station in Wales last month has been investigated by British Transport Police detectives, and 11 people have been arrested in connection with the offence.
The incident occurred at 9.50 pm on Tuesday, 7th April, after reports that a group of youths were involved in a large fight. Following the fight, four of the youths received treatment in hospital for stab wounds, which were not serious, and the youths were later discharged.
Dyfed Powys Police arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man at the scene, and investigations have resulted in nine more people being arrested in connection with the incident. The 11 people arrested are aged between 13 and 19 years old, and all live in the Tenby and Pembroke Dock areas.
The arrests were for offences including Grievous Bodily Harm and Violent Disorder, and all are currently on police bail while further enquiries continue into the incident.
During the summer, British Transport Police will be working with Dyfed-Powys Police to provide a visible presence for anyone visiting Tenby and elsewhere on the rail network, and to reassure the public and help prevent disorder.
British Transport Police is asking for railway staff and fellow passengers to be treated with courtesy and respect. They are also asking that parents and guardians should be aware of where their children are going and what they’re doing.
“We completely understand the level of concern this incident has caused and can assure local people that a robust investigation continues. We know there has been a lot of speculation about the background of the incident online – including discussion about an alleged spiking – and following a number of enquiries, we’re now satisfied that there is no truth to any speculation around a spiking incident.”
“Our focus is on helping everyone enjoy their journeys and their time at the resort safely and responsibly. If you see something that concerns you, please report it straight away by texting British Transport Police on 61016, or by speaking to a police officer or a member of railway staff.”
Gareth Davies, Detective Chief Inspector, British Transport Police
