The Severn Valley Railway recently held its Spring Steam Gala on the 16th-19th April.

The event was a roaring success with big visitor numbers across all days of the gala.

Visitors get to see a range of visiting locomotives, including Port of Par Judy and LMS ‘Pug’ 11243, which hauled shuttle services.

Their brake van rides also sold out, with numerous people enjoying a ride on their recently restored GWR ‘Toad’ brake van.

BR 71000 Duke of Gloucester was the headline attraction, creating a huge contrast between the locomotives for general visitors and enthusiasts alike to enjoy.

On the back of this successful event, they also have their upcoming Spring Diesel Festival and brand new Summer Gala, with more information on both events available on their website.

“Thanks to everyone across the railway who has been involved in planning and delivering yet another successful and memorable event,”

“It was fantastic to see the sheer enthusiasm and enjoyment on the faces of visitors and SVR people alike.”

“This was one of the busiest galas I’ve seen. The great weather certainly helped, but our enthusiast events remain the benchmark for the sector.”

SVR managing director Gus Dunster
