Volunteers from TransPennine Express (TPE) and the RNLI raised more than £100 at Scarborough station through engaging with bank holiday passengers on Saturday, 4 April.
The fundraiser follows TransPennine Express’ partnership announcement last year with the RNLI, St Abbs Lifeboat, and Humber Rescue, uniting organisations focused on safety across land and sea.

The collaboration between TransPennine and the RNLI aims to support coastal communities, promote lifesaving advice, and generate vital funding. A new water safety booklet, aimed at families and young travellers heading to coastal destinations, was also distributed, as many half-term passengers travel from inland to enjoy time on the coast.
Alongside station fundraising, TransPennine’s commitment to supporting the efforts of the dedicated RNLI volunteers includes an option for passengers to donate their Delay Repay compensation to the charity.
With many rescues involving inland visitors, the initiative strengthens TransPennine Express’ role in safely connecting communities to the coast, while supporting the hardworking volunteers keeping people safe along the UK’s coastline and waterways.
“Many of our services connect inland communities to seaside destinations, so there’s a natural link between our role as a train operator and the incredible work these rescue organisations carry out. This is about more than just fundraising – it’s about raising awareness of water and rail safety and ensuring our customers have the knowledge to enjoy the coast safely. We’re proud to be working alongside our charity partners to protect lives and support the communities we serve. Volunteers will be out regularly at stations – so look out for them and help us raise money for a good cause.”
Andrew Watkins, Community & Development Manager at TransPennine Express.
