Update: The railway have confirmed the issues have been resolved and trains are expected to run as per the timetable

The East Lancashire Railway has unfortunately suffered a track defect, resulting in all standard services between Bury and Rawtenstall being cancelled today.

A revised service will run throughout the day between Bury and Heywood.

Departures from Bury will run at 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, and 15:00.

Departures from Heywood will run at 11:05, 12:35, 14:05, and 15:35.

The fault is being assessed, and customers are being contacted.

An update will be released later today on whether services over the weekend will be affected.

Responses

  1. I was looking at the track At Ramsbottom the other week and some of the old wooden sleepers looked in poor condition. The line from Bury to Rawtenstall was allowed to run down in a very poor condition before full closure, it’s therefore possible that some sections of the track could date back 50 or 60 years old.
