Rapido Trains UK has announced that it will be producing a new model locomotive and more model wagon variations in its 009 range.

The model company has made this announcement to tie in with its attendance at the Narrow Gauge South 2026 event, which takes place today (Saturday 25 April) at Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh, near Southampton.

The announcement also ties in with the Annual General Meeting of the 009 Society. Rapido Trains UK often works with members of the 009 Society, including consulting on new models.

The new model locomotive is SKU 814xxx Peckett & Sons Cranmore Class 0-4-0. This project is currently at the Engineering Prototype (EP) sample stage, in which an unpainted sample is assembled by hand and used by the manufacturer to test fit, functionality and accuracy before the model can progress into full production.

The models will be produced in various liveries, including Peckett Standard and Bowaters Style Light Green, and lined in black, burnt orange, blue, dark blue, red, green and maroon.

Models will have a dome in either an early style or a late style. All will have a six-pin DCC decoder socket, paint finish to museum quality and NEM couple pockets, and are 1:76 scale (009 gauge).

The Peckett & Sons Cranmore class locomotives were named after the Mendip Granite & Asphalt Company’s quarries in Cranmore, Somerset, where the first of this class, Gamecock (Peckett No. 1030 of 1904), was put to work.

The Mendip Granite & Asphalt Company ordered the locomotive work a 2ft gauge tramway which connected its quarries to Cranmore station in Somerset. Cranmores were small, 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotives, which were often used for industrial work.

The additions to the company’s 009 All Purpose Wagon Range are SKU 833xxx Wooden Coal Hopper, Rectangular Tank and Round-ended flat wagon.

Last month, Rapido Trains UK announced three new OO Gauge models: a Lancashire & Yorkshire (L&Y) Class 25 ‘Ironclad’ 0-6-0, a train pack based on The Railway Children film, and a War Department Rectank bogie wagon.
