Northern is reminding passengers of timetable changes from Sunday, 17 May, as part of the national timetable change coming into effect in both May and December 2026.

Most of Northern’s services are unlikely to change in May, with around 650 services a day serving over 500 stations across the North of England, including theCarlisle to Settle line.

However, there is set to be targeted adjustments aimed at improving punctuality and reflecting passenger feedback.

In the North East, more journeys between Newcastle and Whitby will run direct on Sundays. In Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, Sunday services between Sheffield and Lincoln will call at all stations. Minor punctuality tweaks are also planned in the North West.

Passengers intending to travel on Northern services across the network can use the Northern app or National Rail Enquiries to plan ahead of travel.

“We’ve listened to feedback from our customers and have focused on improving reliability when the May timetable change takes place.

“Whilst there won’t be widespread changes to times, I’d advise customers to check before they travel as some services will leave a few minutes earlier than they do now to help with overall punctuality.”

Toby Higgins, Head of Business Performance at Northern.
