Bristol-born presenter Naomi Wilkinson is set to bring to life the story of The Giants of Avon Gorge, as part of the ‘Trackanory’ storytime series.

The tale is part of eleven stories included in Great Western Railway’s new collection of myths and legends from the South West and Wales titled ‘The Line to Legend Land’.

In this tale, two giant brothers, Goram and Vincent, carve the Avon Gorge while vying for the giantess Avona.

An update from a version published over a century ago, the series, produced by So-Motive, also features former children’s laureate Sir Michael Morpurgo (who also features in ‘Line to Legend Land’) and BBC Wales presenter Huw Stephens reading additional stories.

Along with a feature on the ‘Trackanory’ series, statues depicting the tales from ‘Line to Legend Land’ can be found across the Great Western Railway network, including the Giants of Avon Gorge at Bristol Temple Meads, Mermaid of Nennor at St Ives, and the Red Dragon at Cardiff.

Further information on the series can be found online.

“I was really pleased to read a story from The Line to Legend Land. There’s dragons and faeries, ghosts and even a mythical mermaid as Great Western Railway brings back to life a book it first published around 100 years ago.

“So, as we travel from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads, join me on a journey of discovery as I tell you all about The Giants of Avon Gorge.”
