The Llangollen and Corwen Railway is set to celebrate with the launch of its brand-new pop-up pub, The Beyer’s Arms, open from April 10 to 12, during the highly anticipated Branch Line Gala.

Set on Llangollen Station, the bar pays tribute to Charles Beyer, a Victorian locomotive engineer, philanthropist, and an early LGBTQ figure, with 2026 marking 150 years since his birth.

The railway will be transforming Platform 1 into a unique drinking spot during the Branch Line Gala, complete with restored vintage carriages serving as private booths.

Visitors can sip award-winning Welsh beers while soaking up the charm of a heritage Welsh railway.

A strong local drinks lineup anchors the experience. Purple Moose Brewery brings crowd favourites including Ysgawen, Snowdonia Ale, and Dark Side of the Moose, while Hafod Brewing Co adds its Helles Lager and Sunrise IPA. Wines, soft drinks, and bottled options round out the offering.

Stations at Berwyn, Glyndyfrdwy, and Corwen will serve refreshments, while the popular Porter’s Bar offers terrace views of passing trains. On Saturday evening, live folk and acoustic music from Chris Greve and friends will enhance the festival atmosphere.

The gala itself promises a packed programme, from intensive train timetables to freight demonstrations and vintage attractions.

A standout locomotive lineup, including rare visiting engines and home fleet favourites, will also be on offer for visitors.

This includes GWR Pannier Tank No. 1369, Small Prairie No. 4555, and home favourites such as Tank No. 7754, freight locomotive No. 3802, and Class 14 diesel D9525.

The Beyer’s Arms opens daily from noon, offering both gala-goers and evening visitors a spirited new way to experience the railway. Entry is free after 6 pm, on Friday and only £5 for non-Gala customers on Saturday.

“This weekend is going to be brilliant and represents a return to putting the railway at the heart of the community. Later this month we will also relaunch our Real Ale Trains as ‘Ales of Wales’, offering an impressive range of Welsh beers alongside live music and an evening journey through the Dee Valley.”

James Veal, Llangollen Railway’s Special Events Manager.
