Authorisation has been granted by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) (the regulator) to open three stations on the Camp Hill Line in south Birmingham.
The stations have all been constructed afresh, and are at Moseley Village, Kings Heath and Pineapple Road, with their names chosen after a public consultation.
They are due to open next Tuesday, 7th April, and will bring scheduled passenger services to the line for the first time in over 80 years.
A wooden station nameboard from the original station at Kings Heath has been acquired by Transport for West Midlands and will be displayed at the new Kings Heath station when it reopens.
There will be two services per hour, operated by West Midlands Railway, between Birmingham New Street and Kings Norton. Journey time from Moseley Village to Birmingham New Street will be around 12 minutes, 15 minutes from Kings Heath, and 17 minutes from Pineapple Road.
As well as authorising the commencement of services, the regulator’s remit also includes station access and inter-platform connections. The regulator’s granting of authorisation confirms that the stations conform to established standards in areas such as health and safety, accessibility, environmental protection, and are available for operational services.
To ensure that the necessary important checks and surveys were carried out correctly, the Office of Rail and Road liaised closely with the West Midlands Combined Authority, Network Rail, and the West Midlands Rail Executive.
“This is an important step in bringing passenger rail back to the Camp Hill Line and improving connectivity for communities in south Birmingham. We’re pleased to have played our part in getting Moseley Village, Kings Heath and Pineapple Road ready to open. Our team worked closely with the project partners through the authorisation process, just as we do for new trains and infrastructure across the country.”

Perhaps Camp Hill and Brighton Road stations should be reinstated and reopened on the Camp Hill Line.
