As a way to say thank you to locals who have kept them running for many years, the East Lancashire Railway is offering locals discounted fares.

The Residents Permit scheme celebrates the contributions made by the local community. It provides residents of Bury, Rochdale and Rossendale with access to the scheme for just £5 for two years.

The scheme provides them access to a Residents’ Freedom ticket, allowing them to explore all day and save up to £16.

Further information on the Residents Permit scheme can be found on their website.

“As we approach the 40th anniversary in 2027 of rescuing the railway from dereliction, we have always prided ourselves as a community-led heritage railway in reaching out to all our local communities, making the railway more accessible as a key part of our charitable status”

ELR Chairman Mike Kelly
