Dovetail Games has announced that, in collaboration with Mattel, it has officially launched a new standalone Thomas & Friends™ game, called Wonders of Sodor.

The companies announced the new game last month, and confirmed its release date on Friday 6 March.

The game is available on PlayStation, Steam, Xbox and the Epic Games Store, and is an interactive adventure based on eight stories and played from a first-person perspective.

It will be available for Nintendo Switch soon.

Players take the controls of locomotives Thomas, Percy, Gordon, Emily and Diesel, and drive them around Sodor’s landmarks, including Tidmouth Sheds, Knapford Station, and the famous Windmills.

Locations such as Elsbridge Station, Tidmouth Station and Vicarstown Station are variants from the Thomas the Tank Engine publishing and content series.

In the Deluxe edition of the game, players have a further option of playing as the North Western Railway’s red No. 5 engine, James.

The game’s stories include Thomas & Gordon, Thomas & Bertie’s Great Race, Percy’s Troublesome Day, and are narrated by Mark Moraghan, one of the series’ original narrators. Play is accompanied by unique music composed for the game.

As well as the stories, there are three additional game modes. These are Timetable Mode, Explore Mode, and a Shunting Challenge.

  • In Timetable Mode, the player selects a character and drives a day in that character’s life on the Island of Sodor. Players can choose services at different times of the day.
  • In Explore Mode, players walk, ride and drive trains around the Island.
  • In the Shunting Challenge, the player challenges Diesel to shunt Troublesome Trucks into order, aiming to do so in as few moves as possible.

Players will be able to take screenshots of their gameplay with Photo Mode.

Physical copies of the game will be made available later in 2026, thanks to Maximum Entertainment.

We hope you enjoy being Really Useful Engines in Thomas and his friends’ latest adventures in Sodor; as much as we’ve all enjoyed making it. Full steam ahead!
