Network Rail, British Transport Police and Samaritans have relaunched their joint campaign ‘Small Talk Saves Lives’.
New ‘Ticket to Talk’s were unveiled at London Waterloo station, which has 2,284 tickets highlighting phrases which have been used on the network and help to save a life in the last year.
Samaritans released new survey data, which revealed that most people would avoid small talk (78%) regardless of the fact that they would also appreciate kind words from a stranger if they were upset (59%).
52% of those surveyed think small talk is a thing of the past; however, 68% said that they would be more willing to make small talk if they knew it made a positive impact.
The campaign has been running since 2017 and has been encouraging people to talk, as it could save a life.
