Train operator Greater Anglia has secured four major honours at the Golden Whistles Awards 2026, marking an unprecedented run of success for the company.
The annual awards, organised by Modern Railways magazine and the Chartered Institution of Rail Operators, recognise excellence in UK railway operations based purely on performance statistics.
Greater Anglia claimed the titles for Best London and South East Operator, Best Long Distance Operator and Best Operational Performance for the fourth consecutive year. The company also picked up the award for Minimising Cancellations, bringing its 2026 total to four.
The achievement makes history: no train operator has previously won four awards in a single year at the event, or maintained such a sustained run of success. The latest wins follow triple victories in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The awards reflect consistently strong reliability figures across the network. Greater Anglia’s moving annual average using the demanding “Time to 3” punctuality measure stands at 91.9%, meaning trains arrive within three minutes at every station they serve. Under the traditional Public Performance Measure, punctuality reaches 93.3%.
Several routes perform even higher, with punctuality exceeding 95% on lines linking Norwich, Ipswich, London and several coastal destinations.
The results underline Greater Anglia’s position as one of the UK’s most reliable train operators, despite running services across a busy and complex rail network.
“We’re really proud to have received these four major awards this year, going one better after winning three awards every year for the past three years. It’s further deserved recognition for our teams and the excellent performance being delivered across Greater Anglia over the past 12 months.
“Customers consistently rate a punctual and reliable service as their key priority for rail travel, so we have been focusing relentlessly on meeting those expectations and, with the help of our new trains and targeted work by colleagues across our company, day in, day out, we have been delivering performance at the highest standards ever seen in our region, on an ongoing basis, for six years now. We also recognise the work of our key industry partners, such as Network Rail, Stadler and Alstom, in providing such a good service.
Martin Beable, Managing Director, Greater Anglia.
