Dapol is currently creating a range of pitched-roof Salt Vans in both OO and O gauge.
These Salt Vans are among the most recognisable wagons in Britain’s railway history. Their distinctive pitched roofs were designed to drain water away from the precious salt inside, making them unique in appearance.

The OO gauge vans will feature NEM pocket couplings, accurate livery representation applied to a highly detailed Salt Van body moulding. There will be a choice of two liveries available to choose from, Mortons Salt and Cerebos Salt, with both wagons available to buy in weathered condition.

The O gauge vans will feature the same two liveries as the OO gauge models and will also be available in weathered condition. These models will also feature accurate liveries along with diecast chassis with sprung buffers, couplings and compensation beam. The van body will be a detailed injection-moulded body, allowing for an accurate, highly detailed model. The wheels will be spoked diecast.

Produced in the UK, the vans are expected to go on sale in May this year. At the time of writing, the decorated examples of the wagons are under review at Dapol. More information about the models and to pre-order the models can be found on Dapol’s website.
Dapol has already made several announcements so far in early 2026, including N gauge class 33 diesels, due to be released this month, six-wheel tank wagons and Hawk wagons.
