Northern passengers are set to benefit from a new service which was launched yesterday.

The new fast service provides a travel option between Leeds and Sheffield, taking only 47 minutes.

The service, named ‘the Yorkshire Flyer’, launched at an event in Leeds and will run every hour.

This will cut journey times between the two cities, which previously took an additional hour, and provide thousands of extra seats.

The previous option called at numerous stops; this service stops just once at Wakefield Westgate.

The slower stopping service will still run four times per hour, to ensure people can remain connected.

“Our customers have been calling for faster trains between Leeds and Sheffield for some time. That’s why we are really excited to launch the Yorkshire Flyer.

“Running every hour every day, it offers customers a fast and straightforward alternative to taking the car. They can make affordable journeys with less faff, whether they’re travelling for work, university or days out with friends and family.

“The new Yorkshire Flyer will provide a more effective link between Yorkshire’s economic powerhouses and help drive growth.”

  1. Totally agree with Ian Roberts previous post – Sheffield to Doncaster/Adwick hourly local service is often cancelled and its arrival in Doncaster delayed or current timing misses connections for such as Lincoln (direct service) Cleethorpes, Bridlington and Scarborough meaning lengthy waits.
