Great Western Railway (GWR) is rolling out 54 trains and over 27,500 seats for fans headed to Sunday’s Wales v France Six Nations match at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

All pre-match trains are reservation-only, so supporters are urged to book in advance of travel to secure a seat and avoid disappointment.

Ahead of the 15:10 kick-off on 15 February, Great Western will offer 14,500 seats, including five extra services, for fans travelling across the network. Gates at the stadium open early, and arriving ahead of the rush is recommended for a smooth journey.

After the final whistle, around 17:00, Great Western will provide a further 13,000 seats at home. This is a combination of 10,500 planned seats and an additional 2,400. 26,00 trains will run post-match to destinations across the network.

A queuing system will operate outside Cardiff Central tokeep boarding safe, with trains leaving on a first come-first served basis. No reservations are needed for the return trip; fans have been asked to leave plenty of time to board.

Transport for Wales (TfW) will also be increasing capacity for the event. Passengers are advised to prepare ahead of time for travel.

“We’re delighted to be laying on significant extra capacity for what promises to be a thrilling Six Nations clash at the Principality Stadium.

“We’d urge fans to plan ahead and secure their seats early to avoid disappointment. Please allow sufficient time to make your journey and remember that trains will be extremely busy leading up to kick-off and immediately following the match.”

  1. All these extra services and 15,000 unsold seats for the game.
Are they giving away a match ticket with every return ticket on the extra trains? Sad days for rugby everywhere with the mess Welsh Rugby is in.
