ScotRail is receiving significant approval from its passengers, with a vast majority reporting a positive travel experience with the operator.

According to the Rail Customer Experience Survey (RCXS), conducted by passenger watchdog Transport Focus, nine out of ten passengers said they were satisfied with their overall journey.

ScotRail performed well in several key areas. Overall satisfaction with stations was 91%, while 90% of passengers were pleased with the trains.

Information provided during journeys scored particularly high, with a 93% satisfaction rating and 90% of passengers saying they feel safe while on board.

The results come as ScotRail recorded its busiest December since returning to public ownership. December 2025 saw more than 7.8 million journeys across Scotland, marking an increase of 10% compared to 2024.

The Rail Customer Experience Survey collects around 130,000 responses annually from rail users and provides detailed feedback every four weeks to assist in operator improvements.

“We’re really pleased to see such strong levels of satisfaction from our customers in this latest independent survey.

“It shows those who travel with us value the efforts of our staff and the improvements we are making.

“We know there is always more to do, and we remain focused on delivering a service that is safe, comfortable, and easy to use for everyone who travels with us.”

David Ross, ScotRail Chief Operating Officer.
