For the third year in a row, South Western Railway has achieved a 100% pass mark for the Safeguarding on Rail Scheme.
Their efforts to protect vulnerable people have been praised by the British Transport Police.
The operator has continuously implemented new and improved safeguarding measures and has not relied solely on prior work to earn the score.
Throughout the year, the operator has increased the use of body-worn cameras; 51 colleagues became Safeguarding Champions; Junior Citizen events were launched; and outreach initiatives were launched with Railway Children and the South Bank Business Improvement District.
They also co-hosted a National Safeguarding Conference and hold bi-monthly safeguarding meetings.
Staff are required to complete safeguarding training with a refresher every two years to ensure they know what to do in various situations.
“Under public ownership, South Western Railway continues to lead the way in protecting passengers and staff on its network.
“This perfect score is a fantastic achievement and shows how using modern technology and working closely with BTP, local partners and charities is helping to make the rail network safer for everyone.”
Local Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood
