Four days of engineering work were carried out between New Malden and Twickenham.
Services have now resumed in the area following the completion.
During the work, 25 pairs of wheel timbers, which support the tracks on the Kingston River bridge, were replaced.
The previous wheel timbers were wooden and worn, and have now been replaced with new Fibre-reinforced Foamed Urethane (FFU) wheel timbers.
These FFU timbers have a longer lifespan of around 50 years and will require less maintenance.
Kingston also saw some general maintenance carried out, including some signalling work in Teddington and the demolition of redundant equipment at Strawberry Hill and Shepperton.
“We’d like to thank passengers for their patience while this work took place in south west London over the four-day line closure. Our teams worked around the clock to renew the railway and passengers will benefit from smoother and more reliable journeys.”
Speaking on behalf of Network Rail and South Western Railway, George Murrell, Wessex Route Renewals Director
