Luton Station is currently undergoing an accessibility upgrade, including step-free access across all its platforms.
The station is getting a new footbridge and three lifts thanks to funding from the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme.
The main work takes place from February to December, with the bridge span to be installed in June.
Currently, access is only step-free for platform 5, and by spring 2027, all platforms will have an accessible route.
“We’re building a railway that works for everyone and these improvements at Luton station will mean more people can travel independently. Whether it’s commuting to work, accessing education, or visiting loved ones, everyone should be able to travel with confidence.
“With the support of Network Rail and local partners, our Access for All programme is delivering practical changes that make a real difference for passengers.“
Rail Minister Lord Hendy

Both Harlington and Luton railway stations are to have new footbridge with lifts. What about Leagrave and Flitwick that could also do with some upgrades including a new footbridge with lifts. And with the new Wixams station under construction and due to be completed in few years.
Finally the largest town between London and Leicester on the MML is getting some money spent on its railway station.. For anyone who has used Luton Station they will know the place is a complete shambles, water pours through the canopies when it rains … Narrow footbridge to platforms 1&2 which I remember was just fettled up for Electrification …like 44 years ago. No waiting room on platform 5, waiting room on 1&2 closed .. waiting room on 3&4 usually locked .. And it needs a train operator who recognises that it needs through services (again) to the likes of Leicester / Nottingham / Sheffield.. Not many people in Luton really want to go to Corby ,!
