Network Rail has released time-lapse footage of demolition work on the Kirk Hill Bridge near Sutton Bonington in Nottinghamshire, carried out as part of a wider bridge upgrade programme.
The bridge demolition featured in the video was carried out in late December, while passenger services were not running.
Construction of the replacement bridge is expected to have minimal disruption towards passenger travel, with work scheduled to take place over four weeks from mid-February 2026. The project is planned to occur overnight and at weekends.
From mid-March until the anticipated September completion, engineers will focus on installing parapets and completing the bridge structure, along with ensuring the project has met highway and utility requirements.
“Completing the demolition safely and on schedule is a major step forward in the Kirk Hill bridge project. We’re now focused on completing the scheme to deliver improvements that will benefit passengers and freight for decades to come. Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly over Christmas and to the local community for their patience and understanding.”
Katie Oliver, Network Rail lead portfolio manager.
