Amtrak have unveiled a new phase in its evolution with one of the most expensive renewal programmes in its history.
During a preview event, Amtrak President Roger Harris presented the first Airo of a new fleet.
The debut showcases a new trainset designed to deliver greater comfort, reliability, and more contemporary amenities.
The Airo fleet also heralds the beginning of a modernisation effort taking place across Amtrak’s network, aiming to expand capacity and provide a consistent and high-quality rail travel experience nationwide.

Airo trains will be following the rollout of NextGen Acela, which has served the Northeast Corridor route since August 2025 and served over 60,000 passengers within the first month.
The first of the Airo trainsets is currently scheduled to enter passenger service through the Amtrak Cascades.
Running through the Pacific Northwest corridor route, the Cascades line takes passengers from Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, BC, Eugene, and Oregon. All eight trainsets for this route are on schedule to finish manufacturing in 2026.
The first Airo trainsets for the Northeast Regional route are also set for manufacturing completion and the commencement of testing in 2026, with hopes to begin services with Airo trains by 2027. A total of eighty-three Ario trainsets are planned for rollout across the Amtrak network in the coming years in a bid to welcome in a new era of travel on the service.
