Upgrades on the Inverclyde line start tomorrow (7th February) as part of a £4 million investment by Network Rail.
Bridges and structures will undergo repairs over eight days to renew them.
This entails:
- Station Road, Langbank – steel work underneath the bridge and platform replacement
- River Gryffe Bridge – repairing steel and new main deck
- Houston Road, Georgetown- repairing steel
- Greenock – replacing and repairing walls
This work means that the line will be closed from the 7th to the 10th February and from the 14th to the 17th February.
Engineers will take advantage of the closure to manage vegetation as part of an ongoing project.
Replacement services will be in place between Paisley Gilmour Street and Wemyss / Gourock.
Passengers are advised to allow extra time and to check online before they travel.
“Delivering a safe, reliable railway for the communities we serve is always our priority.
“The work beginning this week on the Inverclyde line is vital to strengthening the resilience of the route. These improvements will help ensure passengers can continue to depend on this line for many years to come.
“By bringing several essential projects together into a single planned closure, we’re minimising the overall disruption and avoiding the need for repeated downtime further down the line.
“I want to thank passengers and local residents for their understanding and patience while our teams carry out these important upgrades.”
Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland
