To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week from Monday, 9th to Sunday, 15th February, HS2 has announced that it is looking to recruit 34 apprentices and 16 graduates.

Earlier this year, HS2 passed its goal of providing 2,000 apprenticeships over the duration of the project, and is now recruiting more people to provide them with skilled careers. Five of the apprentices will join project controls and commercial teams within HS2 Ltd, whilst 26 apprentices will join Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV), which is HS2’s construction partner in the West Midlands, for roles working on-site as construction quantity surveyors, civil engineers, materials technicians, and geospatial technicians.

Other roles are also available with BBV in health and safety, procurement, information management, and data analysis.

In London, three new apprentices are being recruited for roles as logistics apprentices and for roles in civil engineering and quantity surveying. Later this month, 15 apprentices will be recruited for work on HS2’s Euston approaches.

Concurrent with the apprentice recruitment programme, HS2 Ltd is seeking 16 candidates for its two-year graduate programme, in which candidates obtain experience in different areas of the business.

Through its investment in future talent, HS2’s training of 33,000 people to build the high-speed railway will provide skilled staff to build the homes and infrastructure projects of tomorrow. With training from highly-skilled industry experts, recruits will develop the skills and knowledge only possible from a project such as HS2.

Further information about HS2’s apprentice and graduate roles can be found here; recruitment for this year’s apprentices and graduates started yesterday, Monday, 9th February.

“We welcomed our very first cohort of HS2 apprentices back in 2017, so this year marks our tenth annual intake. Hitting the 2,000-apprentice milestone was a huge achievement not just for HS2, but the country as a whole, as we strive to create a specialist talent pool that will deliver the UK’s major infrastructure projects of the future.”

“It’s never too late to start a new career, and apprenticeships are a brilliant option for those seeking something new. With fully funded training costs and time allocated for study, there’s never been a better time to consider an apprenticeship.”

Rebecca Young, HS2 Ltd’s Head of Skills, Inclusion and Supply Chain
