A £8.9 million project begins next month to increase accessibility at Apsley station.
The Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme has funded the project, and Network Rail will be installing three new lifts.
Currently, there is only step-free access to platform 4; the lifts will be installed on the existing footbridge, providing step-free access across all platforms.
Along with the lifts, the power supply will also be upgraded to improve lighting and CCTV.
Facilities at the station will change from next month as a construction compound will be set up in the car park, which will prevent all access to the station’s car park.
Passengers who need parking are advised to head to Kings Langley and Hemel Hempstead stations, where parking is available.
The station will remain open throughout the project, but the platforms will be shortened to create a safe area for construction.
Additionally, Network Rail has invited the local community to a drop-in event held at Apsley Community Centre on 10th March between 5 pm and 7 pm, with teams on hand to answer any questions.
The project is expected to be completed by Christmas 2026.
“This upgrade is an important investment for passengers in Apsley, bringing step‑free access to all platforms for the first time. We’ll be at the community drop‑in event to talk through the plans and answer any questions about how the work may affect people locally.
“We’re working closely with London Northwestern Railway to keep disruption to a minimum, and we’d like to thank passengers and the community for their patience while we deliver these essential improvements.”

Good to see Apsley railway station on the West Coast main line to get the upgrade it needs including a new footbridge with lifts.
