Greater Anglia have announced that from Sunday, 8 March 2026, passengers will be able to enjoy pay-as-you-go contactless ticketing at an additional 20 stations along the line, making travel quicker, simpler, and more flexible.

The upgrade benefits key commuter and airport routes, including the Stanstead Express between London Liverpool Street and Stanstead Airport, allowing passengers to touch in and out using contactless bank cards, smartphones, or other smart devices.

Stations now offering contactless ticketing include Billericay, Beaulieu Park, Bishop’s Stortford, Chelmsford, Harlow Town, Hatfield Peverel, Southend Victoria, Southend Airport, Stanstead Airport, and others. The service automatically calculates fares based on time and destination, combining peak and off-peak journeys, with daily caps for travel into and within London.

The expansion comes as part of a wider industry programme, in partnership with the Department for Transport for London, to simplify fares and ticketing.

Passengers are reminded to check availability at departure and arrival stations, and to ensure they touch in and out properly to ensure accurate fares.

“We are pleased to be able to confirm that pay as you go contactless ticketing will be introduced at a further 20 stations from 8 March, making travel across our network simpler and more flexible for customers.

“This extension is another important step in modernising ticketing on the railway, allowing passengers to tap in and out and pay for the journeys they make, while improving the overall experience for those travelling into and out of London.”

Martin Beable, Greater Anglia’s Managing Director.
