East Midlands Railway (EMR) has launched its 2026 recruitment campaign for Fleet Engineer Apprenticeships.

The Apprenticeship programme offers a unique blend of practical and classroom-based learning to applicants of all backgrounds, offering work alongside skilled engineers in EMR’s maintenance depots in either Derby Etches Park or Nottingham Eastcroft.

Applications are open from 6 February 2026 to 22 February 2026. To support prospective candidates, an information session is taking place on the 11th to provide further insight into the role, apprenticeship structure, and application process.

Shortlisted candidates will get the opportunity to attend depot tours, offering a valuable insight into EMR’s engineering operations. These visits allow for a deeper understanding of the role of Fleet Engineers and the day-to-day responsibilities that allow the EMR fleet to run safely.

The course is a four-year programme, combining technical study and hands-on work. Apprentices will earn a salary while developing essential engineering skills for a long-term career in rail engineering. Upon completion, candidates will have earned industry experience and qualifications alongside valuable engineering experience.

To apply, submit to the EMS careers portal before 22 February. Further details are available on the EMS website here: https://jobs.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/vacancies.aspx?cat=455

“Our Fleet Engineer Apprenticeship is designed to develop the next generation of skilled engineers for the railway.

“We are looking for motivated individuals from all backgrounds, and we’re particularly keen to encourage applications from women, young people and ethnic minority groups, to help us build a diverse and innovative workforce for the future.”

Kate Holden, HR Director, EMR.
