Network Rail is reminding passengers travelling on the West Coast Main Line are being urged to plan ahead of travel over Easter due to essential railway upgrades between London Euston and Milton Keynes.

Between 3 and 8 April, engineers will carry out a £400m programme to modernise infrastructure, boost reliability, and support future growth on the line.

During the six-day closure, no mainline trains will run between Euston and Milton Keynes Central, with rail replacement services in operation.

Additional improvements across the line, including signalling and overhead line upgrades in the North, will further enhance reliability and resilience for passengers.

London Overground Lioness services will run between Euston and Willesden Junction on Good Friday (3 April) and Easter Monday (6 April), and between Euston and Watford Junction on Tuesday (7 April) and Wednesday (8 April). There will be no mainline or Overground services in or out of Euston on 4-5 April.

Key works include: £8.4m of track renewals at Willesden, £6.6m bridge waterproofing in Ledburn, £7m signalling upgrades nearby, over £8m on overhead line equipment near Wembley, £2m of power supply enabling works at Bushey, and £5.8m on station canopy and platform improvements at Harrow & Wealdstone.

Passengers are advised to check schedules and allow additional time for travel.

“There is a large amount of work taking place over the Easter bank holiday and until 8 April to improve the reliability of the West Coast Main Line for the millions of passengers and freight operators who rely on this route.

“There will be some major changes to journeys between Euston and Milton Keynes in this six-day period so we’re urging everyone who plans to travel over Easter to check their journey in advance at National Rail Enquiries.”

Gary Walsh Network Rail’s West Coast South route director.

“While Network Rail carry out this essential work, we’ll be operating an amended timetable with journeys to and from London Euston involving changes or rail replacement buses. We strongly advise customers making journeys to or from London Euston between 3 and 8 April to plan ahead and check the National Rail website before travelling.”

Chris Liptrot, Operations Director at Avanti West Coast.
