A record crowd of 200 guests gathered at Crewe Alexandra’s Hybrid Lounge on 5 February as nineteen stations from across Cheshire were honoured at the Cheshire Best Kept Station Awards.

The ceremony, attended by twelve Borough and Town Mayors, saw transport journalist Tony Miles present the accolades.

Top honours were awarded to Romiley Station, which claimed Overall Best Kept Station for the first time.

Special Railway 200 Awards were presented to Handforth and Sandbach Railway Stations for their imaginative programmes celebrating 200 years of the modern railway.

Meanwhile, Altrincham Interchange secured the public vote for the Cheshire Life Photographic Award.

Hyde Central Railway Station also had a landmark moment, winning its first award in the competition’s 23-year history with the CrossCountry Rising Star Award.

“We’re delighted that several of our stations were announced as winners at the Cheshire Best Kept Stations Annual Awards.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to recognise the community groups and staff who make our stations pleasant and welcoming places that their local communities can be proud of. Their hard work makes a real difference.

“I’m really pleased to see that Romiley station won the Best Kept Station Award. Everyone who worked so hard to transform this station should be incredibly proud.”

Rebecca Styles, a Regional Community and Sustainability Manager at Northern.

“We are surprised and delighted to be awarded Cheshire Best Kept Station 2025, something we had dreamed of winning but never thought we would achieve. This award reflects the efforts of the entire community who readily help us turn our ideas into reality. For more of them, watch this space!”

Angie Clark, secretary of the Friends of Romiley Station.
