Trains are being disrupted this morning after a fire broke out inside Standedge Tunnel, between Marsden and Stalybridge.

Trains cannot run between these two stations and means that trains between Huddersfield and Stalybridge may be cancelled, delayed or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 4pm on the 25th January.

The plan to keep passengers moving is that, where possible, trains between Leeds and Manchester Victoria will divert via the Calder Valley line and will not call at either Huddersfield or Stalybridge.

Passegers who need to travel to Huddersfield are being advised to board a service from Manchester Victoria and change at Dewsbury for a bus to Huddersfield

The following rail replacement transport will operate as follows:

  • Dewsbury to Huddersfield departing at XX:15 every hour from 10:15 until 14:15
  • Huddersfield to Dewsbury departing at XX:45 every hour from 09:45 until 14:45
  • Stalybridge to Huddersfield calling at Mossley, Greenfield, Slaithwaite and Marsden departing at XX:00 every hour from 09:00 until 14:00
  • Huddersfield to Manchester Piccadilly calling at Marsden, Slaithwaite, Greenfield, Mossley and Stalybridge departing at XX:00 every hour from 10:00 until 14:00

Ticket acceptance is in place with TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street / Manchester Piccaddilly and Sheffield, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London North Eastern Railway, Metrolink and Northern.

The latest travel information is available on National Rail Enquiries.
