A new Carriage Storage Shed has been ordered by the 2-foot gauge Golden Valley Light Railway in Derbyshire to store three carriages in the dry.

Former Ffestiniog Railway carriages Nos. 118 and 119, and former Ashover Light Railway carriage No. 4, are currently stored in the Running Shed, where there is precious little spare space.

Having a separate Carriage Storage Shed will allow a rake of ex-colliery man-riders to be stored indoors when the railway is closed, making maintenance on them easier, and extending their working lives.

The order for the new Carriage Storage Shed was placed by the Golden Valley Light Railway Supporters’ Association, and will be built near its existing Running Shed at the Swanwick Junction complex of the Midland Railway-Butterley.

Access to the Golden Valley Light Railway is either by Midland Railway-Butterley train from Butterley station to Swanwick Junction, or on foot to Newlands Inn station at Golden Valley@Visitors should note there is no public parking at Newlands Inn station.
